Please help me Take Back the Beep from Verizon!

I was an AllTel subscriber and I was excited about the “merger” with Verizon. Until I found out that, unlike AllTel, Verizon wants to Cling to the Beep!

Is there a work-around yet for Verizon users? My level 3 ticket on the issue was closed “no-can-do.”

Hi Chris, I’m in the same boat as you – both my and my wife’s new 3GS have the wasteful ~8 second VM instructions following our personal greetings. This morning I called AT&T and eventually worked through enough layers of tech support to find someone at the “back end” who was able to submit a request to have the instructions removed. An hour or so after that I received a call back from another tech to verify the request; he actually had gone in and listened to my VM greeting to make sure he understood exactly what I wanted changed – nice! Shortly after that I received an SMS message (presumably from the same tech) that reads:

“I submitted a case to our voice mail team to change the greeting. You will receive a call in about 3 days with confirmation on the change. Thanks.”

I think one thing that helped me in communicating clearly with the variety of customer support people was to use the phrase “cut through paging” which the name of the option AT&T uses to enable customers skip the voicemail instructions on other phones (non-iPhone). Unfortunately this option isn’t available on the iPhone.

I’ll let you know what happens when I hear back from AT&T.

I am on a family plan (actually 2 of them w/total of 10 lines!) AT&T carrier and REALLY need to know how to TAKE BACK THE BEEP. Anyone out there got instructions? We have all kinds of the phones, from blackberry to sliders, camera and video phones, too. Any help would be appreciated as I am the Nana and considered hi-tech “illiterate” by my grandchildren. Thanks

Hey David, I’m a 7th grade technical genius and I love your campaign. I first heard about it on “The Tech Guy w/ Leo”. The first persuasive essay this year in English class will be based upon this campaign…good luck and hope that you beat the phone company to Take Back The Beep!!

Any idea how to bypass the message in other countries other than the USA, like the UK or Canada?
